Artificial Intelligence (AI) for journalists

Artificial intelligence (AI) is being embedded in newsrooms and content operations across the industry – but how will it affect the role of the journalist, content creator and editor?

The NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Academy offers training resources so that people in different publishing roles can learn the essential skills and knowledge needed to adapt to AI technology as it continues to evolve.

The training is designed to be relevant to a broad audience – including journalists and senior editorial leaders; those working in the public relations, communications and marketing sectors; journalism tutors and trainers; freelance journalists and student journalists.

The aims of the training are:

  • To show the latest information and research about AI tools and technology
  • To provide clarity around the meanings and definitions of AI
  • To show how newsrooms are embedding AI into the content operation
  • To show how AI is supporting the role of the journalist and content creator
  • To provide a practical guide to AI tools and best practice approaches to using them

The training is also provided via different channels including virtual masterclasses and lunch and learns, bespoke in-house programmes and e-learning on the JSA platform.
