The Journalism Diversity Fund will appear on Colourful Radio tomorrow morning.

Katie Dixon, a 16-year-old student from Cottingham High School in the East Riding of Yorkshire, has won the NCTJ’s Stars of the Future competition.

Hannah Scott, the winner of the Archant award for best performance in the 100wpm shorthand exam, received her prize from Archant North London group editor, Geoff Martin, at the NCTJ’s shorthand seminar in London yesterday.

Managing editor of The Sun, Graham Dudman, gave an impassioned speech about the importance of shorthand in journalism, at the NCTJ’s annual shorthand seminar.

A further seven people are to receive financial help towards their journalism training after a panel of industry experts awarded them bursaries from the Journalism Diversity Fund.

Shabana Adam, Toby Bakare, Lynsey Clarke, Olivia Heath, Madeleine Morgan, Jamie Nield-Siddall and Lucy Roue will study NCTJ-accredited courses at Press Association, University of Central Lancashire, News Associates, Liverpool Community College and Brunel University.

Ryman, the UK’s largest specialist stationery store, is to sponsor the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ award for the best shorthand performance at 110/120 words per minute.

Archant, the UK's largest independently-owned regional media business, is to sponsor the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ award for the best shorthand performance at 100 words per minute, underlining its commitment to quality journalism.

The NCTJ is running a series of one-day workshops for anyone who needs help with shorthand note-taking or needs to brush up their skills before sitting exams.
