A Cabinet Office report published yesterday has highlighted concerns about the lack of social mobility in the professions with journalism one of the industries focused on.
Ethnic minorities remain “largely absent" from opinion pages, senior executive roles and staff jobs within the British media, according to statistics compiled by New Statesman.
Bursary recipient and newly-qualified senior reporter, Sam Smith, has won an award for exceptional performance in the November National Certificate Examination.
The shortlist for the third round of bursaries has now been announced and eight aspiring journalists will be interviewed by a panel of editors and senior journalists next month.
The Journalism Diversity Fund received 20 applications this round and those shortlisted will be interviewed by a panel of senior journalists and editors at The Guardian, London, on Friday, 2 December.
