Diploma in Journalism core skills
Duration: No time limit - but six months to two years is recommended
Fee: £402.00 plus VAT - includes the marking of the portfolio

To gain the Diploma in Journalism, all candidates MUST complete the five mandatory subjects – the core skills for all journalists – plus at least two of the specialist options.
The course materials for the core skills package consist of:
- a DVDRom containing the units that make up the core skills;
- additional supporting materials including sample exam papers
- three shorthand audio files with transcriptions;
- four textbooks that will help you to develop the knowledge in each of the subject areas;
- details of the three hours tutor support
- the portfolio
You must use the core textbooks to gain a thorough understanding of the areas of study talked about in the various units. The textbooks included are:
- Essential Reporting
- McNae’s Essential Law for Journalists or Scots Law for Journalists
- Public Affairs for Journalists
- Teeline Gold Standard for Journalists (Shorthand)
