About the bursary

The Thomas Read bursary is awarded each year to an applicant who has been awarded funding from the Journalism Diversity Fund and has a long-term illness, health problem or disability.

The Thomas Read bursary was set up in the memory of the Sky Sports News journalist Thomas Read, who died unexpectedly in 2015, aged 25. Thomas had cerebral palsy, and achieved a great deal in a short amount of time.

In addition to funding from the Thomas Read Foundation, bursary recipients also receive a work experience opportunity at Sky Sports News.

As we celebrate ten years of this special bursary, which has changed the lives of those who have benefitted, please support us in our fundraising efforts.

If you aren’t able to attend, please consider making a donation to the fundraiser here.

Please note: attendance is by invitation only. If you have not received an invitation from the NCTJ and would like to enquire about attending, please email [email protected].
