The NCTJ Awards for Excellence is returning to Manchester to celebrate the achievements of individuals with promising journalism careers ahead of them.
Sponsored by Reuters, the Awards for Excellence ceremony will take place at Hallé St Peter’s on Friday, 4 April.
The annual awards recognise the achievements of journalism students, trainees and apprentices, as well as the training providers and employers promoting positive change in the industry. This year, 72 individuals have been shortlisted across 20 categories, following a record-breaking 400 eligible entries, showcasing the exceptional talent entering journalism.

The NCTJ Awards for Excellence 2025 has been supported across the media industry, with Reuters as headline sponsor and award category sponsors including Alder Media, Yahoo, Sky News, i, the Market Research Society, News UK, British Polling Council, The Telegraph, Sky Sports and the Financial Times.
The event previously took place at Hallé St Peter’s in 2022.

The shortlist for student of the year and trainee of the year awards, which are based on performance in the Diploma in Journalism and the National Qualification in Journalism (NQJ), will be announced later this month.
The winner of the chair’s award for outstanding contribution to journalism education and training will be presented at the ceremony.
Those on the shortlist are invited to the ceremony and lunch as guests of the NCTJ, and the awards celebration will be preceded by an accreditation seminar for course leaders and their industry advisers.
