Time to enter NCTJ journalism awards 2009
Excellence in journalism is the goal for those entering this year’s NCTJ Awards, which is being launched today.
Excellence in journalism is the goal for those entering this year’s NCTJ Awards, which is being launched today.
Editors, tutors, trainers, students and trainees are invited to support the NCTJ’s Awards for Excellence in Journalism 2009, which celebrate the achievements of students on NCTJ courses and trainees on the NCE pathway, with less than two years’ experience on the job.
While the industry is changing rapidly, it is today’s students and trainees who will be taking the industry forward in years to come. Many talented journalists are emerging and their efforts, more than ever in the current downturn, deserve praise.
In a competitive industry, winning an award can help new entrants stand out from the crowd. Winning an NCTJ Award for Excellence in Journalism brings prestige and recognition to all involved – centres of learning, media companies and individual contributors. It will also highlight those who work with the NCTJ in the pursuit of excellence in journalism training.
It’s free to enter the awards and information on categories, what the judges will be looking for, and full entry details are available by clicking on the link on the NCTJ website homepage www.nctj.com or by going directly to the awards website www.nctjawards.com. Entries can be submitted in video, audio or written formats.
There’s also a chance to submit nominations for a special award, which will recognise someone’s outstanding contribution to high standards of journalism training. Anyone can put forward a candidate to be considered for the NCTJ Chairman’s Award.
The deadline for applications to reach the NCTJ is 5pm on 4 September, 2009. Winners of the student and trainee awards will be announced at the Society of Editors’ conference on 16 November 2009, and the NCTJ Chairman’s Award will be presented at the organisations’ Journalism Skills Conference, in Glasgow, in December 2009
