Teesside University Journalism Awards 2013

Student winner of the NCTJ award at Teesside University will get a week’s work placement at the Daily Mail.

Teesside University is celebrating outstanding work by their journalism students at the Teesside University Journalism Awards 2013 on 15 May at the Dickens Inn in Middlesbrough. Students will be awarded 10 prizes, and awards will include work placements on national and regional titles.

The NCTJ Prize will be awarded to either a third-year student on the NCTJ-accredited BA (Hons) Multimedia Journalism course or an MA student on the NCTJ-accredited MA Journalism course with the highest NCTJ pre-entry examination marks. The prize is a week’s work experience in the Daily Mail newsroom and return train fare to London.

Bethany Usher, senior lecturer in media and journalism, said: “Students at Teesside work as journalists to produce their own newspaper, website and TV show so they have practical hands-on experience of the demands of the industry. These awards are an opportunity to celebrate that excellence alongside our industry partners who contribute generously to the work we do and help make the course and our students successful.”

Joanne Butcher, chief executive of the NCTJ, said: “It is great to see excellent NCTJ results being commended at Teesside University, and we are honoured to support this award. A work placement at the Daily Mail will be an outstanding opportunity for the winner of the NCTJ Award to apply their NCTJ knowledge and skills.”
