Student representatives meet with NCTJ board

Representatives from the 2015 Student Council attended the NCTJ’s June board meeting to give their views about their training and qualifications.

Representatives from the 2015 Student Council attended the NCTJ’s June board meeting to give their views about their training and qualifications.

Tom Ritchie, University of Sussex; Jessica Staufenberg, Brighton Journalist Works; and Dan Wright, Lambeth College were nominated by their peers at a meeting of the Student Council in February to speak on their behalf.

The Student Council was set up in 2008 to facilitate a link between students and decision-making at the NCTJ. This annual meeting ensures the opinions and suggestions of those on NCTJ-accredited courses are heard directly by the board.

The students reported that they received a high standard of teaching and were positive about the value of having an NCTJ qualification.

They asked the board to consider providing students with more training on video journalism and compiling a portfolio.
