Shortlist revealed for final bursaries in 2014/2015

The shortlist has been announced for the last round of Journalism Diversity Fund bursaries between September 2014 and August 2015. Applicants will be interviewed by a panel of industry professionals in December.

Eight aspiring journalists have been shortlisted for Journalism Diversity Fund bursaries to help cover the cost of their NCTJ-accredited journalism training.
The full shortlist is as follows:

  • Charlie Brinkhurst
  • Francesca Fitzsimmons
  • Ruby Kearns
  • Matthew Gah-Kai Leung
  • Olawale Kuponipe
  • Maurice Richmond
  • Iram Sarwar
  • Natalie Wardle

The candidates have been invited for interview and will be questioned by a panel of senior journalists and editors in London on Friday, 5 December.

Applicants will be asked various questions about their passion for journalism, financial need and diversity.

Bursaries are awarded to those from socially and/or ethnically diverse backgrounds who have a passion for journalism and can demonstrate how they with bring diversity to the newsroom. Bursaries are awarded to cover the cost of journalism training and may include a contribution towards travel or living expenses depending on financial need.

This was the last round of bursaries for courses that begin between September 2014 and August 2015.

Applications for the next academic year, beginning September 2015, will open in February 2015.
