New NCTJ qualification piloted by Brighton Journalist Works

Brighton Journalist Works is the first centre to pilot the NCTJ’s new Certificate in Foundation Journalism qualification.

The Certificate in Foundation Journalism provides an introduction to journalism, which may be used as a first step for candidates considering a career in journalism or by those wishing to develop their journalistic skills for community reporting.

The NCTJ Level 3 Certificate in Foundation Journalism is suitable for those aged 16+ or adult learners educated to at least GCSE level. It can be used by those in full-time education, by those who are considering a career change or those wanting to develop new skills. While it is unlikely to lead directly to a job in journalism, it can provide a useful introduction to journalism and progression to the Diploma in Journalism.

Brighton Journalist Works’ introduction to journalism course will be taught by professional journalists via evening classes over 20 weeks at The Friends Centre, Brighton Junction.

They will also be delivering the qualification to A-Level students through two local schools, Brighton Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College and Hove Park School Sixth Form.
