NCTJ student named Student Digital Journalist of the Year
Elena Cresci, who has recently graduated from the NCTJ-accredited MA/PgDip in Journalism at Cardiff University, has won the award for Student Digital Journalist of the Year at the Guardian Student Media Awards.
Elena Cresci, who has recently graduated from the NCTJ-accredited MA/PgDip in Journalism at Cardiff University, has won the award for Student Digital Journalist of the Year at the Guardian Student Media Awards.
Award judges were looking for a digital journalist creating insightful, interesting and relevant content that reaches audiences in new and innovative ways. The panel included Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger, ITV News at Ten presenter Mark Austin and editor of NME Mike Williams.
Elena was presented with her award at a ceremony in London and also wins two weeks work experience with the Guardian.
Elena said: “It feels utterly fantastic to win. I still can’t quite get my head around the thought of some of my favourite digital journalists liking my work, but it’s just brilliant.
“We were able to enter three links, so I submitted my sewing blog Seamless, my Twitter feed and my Flickr profile to the judges to try and show a use of cross-platform digital journalism.
“It is such an honour to be in the company of some truly talented journalists who were commended this year and in past years. Big thanks go to my brilliant tutors at Cardiff University and also my incredibly supportive friends from Swansea University, where I was an undergraduate.
“I’m definitely looking forward to whatever comes next!”
