NCTJ seeks first London Marathon charity runner for 2027

The NCTJ is looking for a runner to take on the 2027 TCS London Marathon after securing its first charity place in the event. 

Applications are now open for someone to represent the charity and raise at least £2,500 to support its work developing current and future journalists. 

Funds raised will support the NCTJ’s charitable work, including the Journalism Diversity Fund (JDF), which provides bursaries and mentoring to help aspiring journalists from underrepresented backgrounds begin careers in journalism. 

Joanne Forbes, chief executive of the NCTJ, said:  “We’re delighted to have secured our first London Marathon charity place and are looking for someone who wants to take on a big personal challenge while supporting the next generation of journalists. 

“The funds raised will support our charitable work, helping people from all backgrounds access the training and opportunities they need to build successful careers in journalism.” 

Applications are open to anyone with a connection to journalism, journalism training or the NCTJ, including former students, journalists, educators, employers and supporters. 

Applicants do not need previous marathon experience but must be aged 18 or over, confident they can complete the course within the official time limit and able to commit to raising at least £2,500. 

The successful applicant will receive support throughout their fundraising campaign, including guidance from the NCTJ, promotional opportunities through its communications channels and an NCTJ running vest. 

Anyone who has already secured their own place in the 2027 TCS London Marathon through the public ballot or another route can also choose to fundraise for the NCTJ. 

Applications close on Monday, 14 September 2026.
