NCTJ recruiting more ambassadors to boost regional outreach
The NCTJ is expanding its ambassadors’ group and is looking for recently qualified NCTJ journalists from all sectors and backgrounds to join this growing initiative.
Ambassadors play a vital role in inspiring the next generation to consider a career in the industry, representing the NCTJ at school careers fairs and championing quality, trust and diversity in journalism.
To ensure young people see a wide range of voices and experiences represented, the NCTJ is particularly seeking new ambassadors based outside London and within the devolved administrations of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to help strengthen regional connections.
Since its launch in July 2024, ambassadors have attended more than 60 careers fairs and talks across the UK, inspiring aspiring journalists and promoting NCTJ training. Building on this success, the NCTJ aims to reach even more communities through greater regional representation.
The ambassadors’ group forms a central part of the NCTJ’s outreach activities to encourage more young people to consider journalism as a career. Ambassadors also draw on the NCTJ’s recent Where your story goes campaign to engage with students, using resources such as an interactive personality quiz and journalism careers guide, sponsored by the Financial Times, to highlight the wide range of opportunities a career in journalism can offer.
New ambassadors will help support the NCTJ at careers fairs, conferences and school visits. They may also write articles or give talks to highlight the value of NCTJ training and the importance of professional standards in journalism.
Sarah Rix, head of marketing and communications at the NCTJ, said: “Journalism is a rewarding and impactful career, and we’re committed to inspiring people from all walks of life to pursue it.
“We’re especially keen to hear from those who have completed their NCTJ diploma within the past few years and can share their experience of training and entering the industry first-hand. By expanding our ambassador network, we can engage with more communities and ensure aspiring journalists see themselves represented.”
