Delegates attending the NCTJ’s Journalism Skills Conference on 30 November will enjoy a keynote address and Q&A session with Fearghal McKinney, SDLP communications consultant and Mike Nesbitt, Strangford MLA and UUP economy spokesman.

Following a welcome address at the Northern Ireland Assembly, delegates will be able to put questions to Ferghal, a former journalist and television presenter with UTV, and Mike, a former television presenter with BBC and UTV. The session will focus on the interaction between politicians and the media and the way political issues are reported.

The Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont is the first venue that delegates will visit during the packed programme. Following this, they will also visit Belfast Metropolitan College, Belfast City Hall and the University of Ulster.

The conference, which is part of the NCTJ’s 60th anniversary celebrations, also features sessions on digital skills and technology in journalism and regulation and ethics, as well as informative workshops focusing on specialist areas of journalism such as finance and health.
