NCTJ board member awarded MBE at Buckingham Palace

Northern Echo editor Peter Barron has received his MBE from the Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in June.

Northern Echo editor Peter Barron has received his MBE from the Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace in June.

The award, announced in the New Year’s Honours List, was made in recognition of Peter’s services to journalism and the community.

Peter, who is also an NCTJ board member, he has led some of the Echo’s most notable campaigns, particularly the Chance to Live campaign which changed government policy on heart bypass waiting times, and the fund-raising campaign to build the Butterwick Children’s Hospice in Stockton.
