An award-winning NCTJ sports journalism student reported from Wembley Stadium on Saturday, as West Ham beat Blackpool to secure a return to the Premiership.

Marcus Chippindale, who completed his training with News Associates, won the chance to cover the Championship play-off for the Football League website thanks to his performance in the NCTJ sports journalism exam.

Marcus said: “The whole day was an amazing experience for me, from brushing shoulders with the likes of Robbie Savage and Mark Bright to the incredible atmosphere inside the ground throughout what was a thrilling match. The late winner for West Ham made writing the match report for full time that extra bit challenging, but that is the sort of drama everyone loves.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the Football League and the NCTJ for organising the day and hopefully it won’t be my last report from Wembley.”
