Claire French has been crowned Daily Print Journalist of the Year for the EDF Energy awards for London and the South of England.

In 2011 she was granted a bursary to study the fast track course at the City College Brighton and Hove and has since gained the National Qualification in Journalism.

She said: “I’m very pleased to have been chosen for an award and feel privileged to have been given this recognition.”

Claire fought off tough competition from journalists across London, Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset.

She snapped up the award while working for The News, a daily newspaper for Portsmouth and south Hampshire.

The award ceremony was held in the Brighton and Hove Albion Amex Stadium on Thursday, 13 November, presented by Lauren Steadman, paratriathlete world champion and Andrew Brown, director of Brand, Sustainability and External Affairs at EDF Energy.
