Important information - Please read before you book an exam

All exams in April and May will be sat remotely.  Exams that take place on Cirrus will be invigilated using a proctoring software (Proctorio) and exams that are not held in Cirrus, will be invigilated via Zoom.

In order to sit your exams from home, you must ensure that you have access to:

  • a secure/stable internet connection
  • a webcam
  • a microphone 

You are responsible for your own technology and you must be satisfied, as far as possible, that you have a secure, stable internet connection at home.

All prices are inclusive of VAT charged at 20%. All fees are payable on application.

In the event of a cancellation or non-attendance no refund will be given. Deferrals will only be considered in exceptional circumstances for the named applicant only in line with the NCTJ reasonable adjustments and special considerations policy. Candidates who are applying for an exam where the fee has been deferred should indicate this in the payment section below.

Exams sat on the Cirrus Platform:

If you have booked to sit Essential Journalism, Newspaper and Magazine regulation test, Essential Media Law, Court Reporting, Public Affairs, PR and Communications, Intro to PR, Sports Journalism, Business and Finance, Business of Magazines or Broadcast Regulation you will be provided with access to Cirrus four weeks prior to the exam date to enable you to sit a sample exam.

Particular Needs:

Candidates with disabilities whose circumstances require reasonable adjustments must supply written evidence to the NCTJ, including a professional assessment report and/or medical certificate. This assessment needs to be received by the NCTJ at the time of applying to sit exams.

The NCTJ reserves the right to charge an additional late payment fee of £25.00 plus VAT for any application accepted after the deadline.

Please note: Reporting instructions and venue information will be issued by email approximately two weeks before the exam date.

Results will also be issued by email to the address provided on this application.

Please ensure you specify your preferred software for the production journalism and videojournalism exams if you are booking to sit them. Whilst we endevour to accomodate your preference, we cannot guarantee this.

 

Section C - To be completed by candidates being placed by the NCTJ at a national exam centre

Examination Centres

Candidates will be allocated to an exam centre by the NCTJ. We will endeavor to assign candidates to a centre in their vicinity, however this cannot be guaranteed and candidates should be prepared to travel to sit exams.

Section D - To be completed by Editor / Training Officer if exams are to be sat in office

The production journalism and video journalism exams can only be sat in office if suitable software and technical support is available

If you will not be sitting an exam in office please ignore this section and complete section C.
