Trainee Reporter – Clydebank Post

The Clydebank Post is looking for a trainee reporter to join our busy Glasgow newsroom, working alongside our sister title, The Glasgow Times.​

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated journalist at the start of their career to make a real impact on a lively patch. You will be responsible for finding exclusive stories, covering council meetings and courts, and writing engaging features that matter to our readers.

You will be based full-time in our Glasgow office. Please note, this role does not offer remote or hybrid working options.

A full UK driving licence is highly desirable, as you will be expected to get out on patch to meet contacts, attend events and respond quickly to breaking news.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generating exclusive stories and strong off-diary content.
  • Covering council meetings, courts and other key civic institutions.
  • Writing clean, accurate and engaging copy to deadline.
  • Building contacts and relationships across Clydebank and the wider area.
  • Contributing ideas for features, campaigns and digital coverage.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • NCTJ qualification (or equivalent) is essential.​
  • 100wpm shorthand is strongly preferred; if you do not yet have shorthand, you must be willing to train towards it.
  • Strong news sense and a passion for local journalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence in attending court and council, or a willingness to learn.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
This role is office-based in Glasgow, working closely with an experienced team and with the chance for your work to appear across our titles.
