Trainee Regional Sub Editor – North East (remote)

It is a fantastic time to join Reach PLC, as we are currently looking for a Trainee Regional Sub Editor to join us.

You will be on a training pathway to become a qualified Regional Sub Editor able to copy-taste and source, design, sub-edit and proof pages to the required standard across the range of daily and weekly titles, such as The Chronicle, Journal, Gazette, Daily Mail and Grimsby Telegraph.

You will have a close working relationship with Senior Regional Sub Editors and Print Editors to provide operational page design, subbing and production requirements of the print department.

We are looking for someone who is highly organised and with strong time management skills, an interest in sport would also be advantageous.

This role is home based and we are therefore open to candidates based across the UK, however a knowledge or being based in the North East would be preferred. 

Job Description

What will the role involve?

  • Commit to completing required modules as part of training pathway
  • Under guidance will copy-taste and source, design, sub-edit and proof pages under pressure, to deadline and to the required standard
  • Manage workload and complete page production process in line with established KPIs and benchmarks
  • Ensure tasks are completed in accordance with IPSO and legal requirements
  • Carry out tasks in line with the vision, strategy and business plan as laid out by print management team
  • Flexible approach to changing shift patterns
  • Ensure the fair and consistent application of all our people policies, procedures and processes are carried out as directed by print management team
  • Be open to receive and act upon constructive in-the-moment performance feedback from managers
  • Support the print department in developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work

  • Good standard of written English

  • Previous experience using Photoshop desirable

  • Full awareness and understanding of latest IPSO and legal requirements
