Sub-Editor – The Sun (London)

Sub-Editor – Fabulous

The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK, publishing hundreds of stories a day and reaching over 170m unique users digitally every month. Its exclusives set the news agenda and its campaigns have changed the lives of many. Delivering news, entertainment, and sports coverage to millions of readers every day. With a rich history spanning decades, we are dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, and engaging content across print and digital platforms.

The Sun has a mass-market audience and aims to appeal to a diverse audience in the UK and beyond.

Your role: If you have a head for headlines and can perform well under pressure, listen up!

The Sun’s Fabulous magazine is looking for an enthusiastic Sub-Editor who doesn’t shy away from responsibility and can work across everything from sensitive real-life stories to fashion, food and fact-packed health features.

This is a four-day-a-week position.

You’ll have experience of subbing on women’s or lifestyle titles and a vice-like grasp of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. You’ll understand the Fabulous reader and contribute ideas for creative headlines and sells. You won’t be afraid to ask questions, upskill and work with the team to make the magazine the best it possibly can be, and if the proverbial hits the fan, you keep calm and carry on.

The role is primarily print-based, but there will also be opportunities to work across digital platforms.

Day to day you will:

  • Ensure copy is error-free, factually correct, adheres to Fabulous house style, and entertains and informs readers.
  • Suggest creative, original and inspiring headlines, sells, captions and coverlines.
  • Perform essential admin tasks on the Production desk to help the magazine workflow run smoothly.
  • Communicate questions effectively and use initiative to problem solve where required.

What we are looking for from you:

  • Proven subbing track record on a national title.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain organised and unflappable under pressure.
  • A whizz at Adobe CC, CMS platforms and familiar with magazine workflows.
