Our video audience on platforms including TikTok, Youtube, Instagram and Facebook is growing rapidly. Our team produced some of the most-watched social videos of the General Election campaign while our social video brand Curiously continues to reach new audiences with its unique take on culture and entertainment.
Brands including the Mirror, Express and Manchester Evening News are delivering journalism which informs, entertains and inspires audiences across social platforms – but we know there’s more to do.
We’re hiring nine social video journalists to join our brands and make sure that the needs of audiences on social networks are at the heart of what we do every day. You’ll not only be taking the big stories of the day and creating brilliant, engaging video but also be responsible for influencing the stories we’re choosing to cover as well.
This role is home and hub based linked to our Liverpool Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around Liverpool.
About the Role:
As a Social Video Journalist for the Liverpool Echo, you’ll be responsible for producing high-quality, shareable video content that resonates with our audience across various social platforms. You’ll have a keen eye for news, a deep understanding of social media trends, and the ability to turn stories into compelling visual narratives.
You’ll be confident in analysing your own work through data, understanding what audiences are responding to, and identifying what our brands can do to reach new people with brilliant content.
In this role, you’ll work with editors every day to identify the stories we should be telling on video, focusing on developing our brands in new locations, as well as identifying new topics our titles should be reporting on across all platforms.

This role will involve weekend and evening working so a flexible approach is required.
About you:
We are looking for candidates who are great at creating brilliant video for social media channels, preferably for news organisations. You will be comfortable appearing in front of the camera as well as editing and producing. You will have an in-depth knowledge of social media platforms and their algorithms, and be comfortable with experimenting with new tools (including AI) An NCTJ qualification or equivalent is considered desirable and not essential.
