PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are currently looking for a talented and enthusiastic Audio Social Journalist to join our dynamic team based in Lincoln, bringing Lincolnshire’s stories alive across all of our platforms. If you possess a passion for crafting high-quality social media content, then we would love to hear from you.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
- Day-to-day running of our social media accounts.
- Reversioning content to make the most of our audio and reach online audiences.
- Working alongside our Executive Producer, the wider BBC Lincolnshire team and the BBC East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire social lead, you’ll aim to drive engagement and grow referrals from social accounts to BBC products and services, including BBC Sounds.
- Promoting radio station activities and using your creative film-making skills to turn the biggest local talking points into content for both social media and broadcast output.
- Being a champion of new social media formats like radio studio visualisation. You’ll need to be a team player – someone colleagues can rely on for digital support and training.
- Using social listening tools to identify the issues that matter most to local audiences – and having the creative vision to turn them into content audiences love to read, watch and share.
- Turning daily radio and TV content into engaging social formats and creating original digital content using your own ideas and experience.
Contributing ideas and helping improve our digital and audio offering.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
This is a great opportunity for someone who loves growing audiences, digital content, and audio – and believes in the power of social media to reach new listeners and viewers.
- Have experience of creating high-impact content across multiple platforms.
- Be passionate about storytelling and understand how the BBC serves local digital audiences.
- Have an instinct for which stories resonate on social platforms.
- Ideally have experience managing accounts or building a social media brand and implementing strategy.
- Understand editorial challenges and legal considerations involved in digital journalism.
- Ideally possess filmmaking skills, with the ability to shoot and edit your own material (e.g. using Final Cut Pro).
- Have knowledge of social listening tools and interpreting audience data. Experience with publishing platforms like Social Flow is also desirable.
- You don’t need a formal journalism or news background – you just need a strong editorial instinct and the ability to spot a great story when you hear it.
If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
