Social & Audience Engagement Producer (UK News) (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

With one of the largest, leading TikTok news accounts and the most sought-after YouTube channel for breaking news and bespoke daily social live streams, the Audience and Social Team sits at the heart of our work to connect with and deliver for our audiences.

This is one of two exciting new roles working to promote and showcase our coverage. This post is for people with an interest in UK news and specialist journalism. (The other post focuses on Politics and World news). You’ll work closely with the presenter and programme team behind The UK Tonight with Sarah-Jane Mee to promote the journalism, brand and talent at the heart of our domestic offer.

What you’ll do:

  • Be familiar and comfortable with the original journalism from our award-winning home and specialist newsgathering teams and have a passion for telling these stories
  • Know what makes a great social post and smart digital video
  • Have detailed knowledge of crafting and optimising social content for Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and YouTube
  • Have creative ideas for developing our talent in these areas with the aim of fostering community and audience engagement
  • Be someone who takes pride in accuracy as well as coming up with fresh ideas, for treatments or original stories
  • Be a standout colleague who is comfortable working closely with other parts of the newsroom, demonstrating adaptability and resilience at work
  • Be a digital native – and a passionate consumer of news on multiple platforms
  • Know how to tell sophisticated stories in a clear and innovative way with the audiences’ needs in mind
  • Be comfortable mostly working evenings Monday to Thursday with an ability to flex around news demands – this is 24-hour news and we’ll need you on the biggest stories

What you’ll bring:

  • A heartfelt belief in the importance of journalism to serve our audiences and hold power to account
  • Knowledge of the Sky News brand, its key programming strands and talent across all platforms
  • Have experience of working closely and building trusted relationships with presenters and high-profile guests.
  • Proven experience in posting content to news publishers and presenters’ social media accounts
  • Excellent writing skills
  • An ability to work at pace whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Demonstrable training and knowledge of media law and the regulatory environment in the UK (copyright, defamation, Ofcom code etc)
  • Flair for innovation, creativity and generating ideas and an eye for what makes for a compelling social clip and social promotion strategy
  • Proficiency with Adobe suite (particularly Premiere, Photoshop, AfterEffects) to edit videos and create engaging, clickable graphics
  • Experience self-shooting social media content using smartphones and Osmos
  • A strong understanding of the news agenda across the UK and Ireland, the devolved nations and regions as well as an interest in a broad range of specialist journalism (e.g. health, communities, home affairs, royals, science, tech and business and economics.)
