Senior Video Editor: Sun News Factual

As a Senior Video Editor for Sun News Factual, you will be a key player in crafting compelling, high-impact video content for our Royals, Showbiz and Factual content strands, driving views and engagement across digital platforms.

Job Description

The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK, publishing hundreds of stories a day and reaching over 170m unique users digitally every month. Its exclusives set the news agenda and its campaigns have changed the lives of many. Delivering news, entertainment, and sports coverage to millions of readers every day. With a rich history spanning decades, we are dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, and engaging content across print and digital platforms.

The Sun has a mass-market audience and aims to appeal to a diverse audience in the UK and beyond.

Your team: An iconic, dynamic storyteller with a rich heritage and a global audience in the millions, The Sun is now focusing on an exciting, video-focussed strategy to engage new audiences, putting video at the heart of The Sun. This is your chance to join a talented team at a pivotal moment, contributing to fast paced, agenda setting video output that drives traffic and revenue, as we redefine how a historic brand tells stories in the fast-paced digital world.

Your role: As a Senior Video Editor for Sun News Factual, you will be a key player in crafting compelling, high-impact video content for our Royals, Showbiz and Factual content strands, driving views and engagement across digital platforms.

This role is tailored for a seasoned editor with a sharp journalistic instinct. You will be responsible for the edit and post-production of multiple fast-turnaround vodcast shows, while also diving deep into narrative-driven long-form strands and premium, documentary-style edits.

Day to day you will:

  • Edit video content across all content strands in an efficient manner. Demonstrating versatility by editing everything from narrative documentary-style pieces, to short, graphics-driven social videos. Projects will range from quick-turnaround clips to longer-form stories, demanding both high editorial quality and speed.
  • Tailor content for multiple platforms—particularly YouTube, our website, and social media channels—optimising for retention, views, shares, and overall audience engagement.
  • Work closely inside a small team of producers and journalists across multiple projects. You will also work independently. Use these insights to set and uphold the technical and editorial standards across the wider Post-Production team.
  • Manage media, handle multi-camera projects, create and animate graphics, perform colour grading, and execute advanced audio design. Leverage these technical skills to maintain efficiency and uphold brand consistency throughout the post-production process.
  • Stay ahead of digital video trends and what drives audience interest online, incorporating that knowledge directly into your edits to optimise for clicks, watch time, and engagement.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • News & Current Affairs Background (Must-Have): You have proven, hands-on experience editing in a fast-paced news and/or current affairs environment. You understand journalistic integrity, legal sensitivities, and how to cut footage that hits the cultural pulse.
  • Narrative-Driven Edit Producer (Must-Have): You don’t just push buttons; you are a storyteller. Experienced in producing and shaping a strong narrative arc out of raw interviews.
  • Master of Diverse Formats: You are equally comfortable crafting an hour-long, narrative-driven interview, a cinematic documentary-style short, or cutting a fast-turnaround vodcast show on a tight deadline.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced, expert-level working knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects. As well as having a working knowledge of motion graphics.
  • Digital Native & Platform-Savvy: You live and breathe online video. You have a deep understanding of YouTube algorithms, thumbnail/hook strategy, and how audiences consume factual content across social media.
  • Fast & Agile: You thrive under pressure and excel at managing multiple projects simultaneously, delivering clean, high-impact edits on tight news cycles.
