Job Description

The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK, publishing hundreds of stories a day and reaching over 170m unique users digitally every month. Its exclusives set the news agenda and its campaigns have changed the lives of many. Delivering news, entertainment, and sports coverage to millions of readers every day. With a rich history spanning decades, we are dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, and engaging content across print and digital platforms.

Your role: The Sun is looking for a talented individual to help lead the development of The Sun’s SEO strategy in a world of AI.

Day to day you will: 

  • Help to grow organic search, Discover and Google News visibility across platforms on all four of The Sun’s domains – thesun.co.uk / the-sun.com / thescottishsun.co.uk / thesun.ie
  • Optimise The Sun’s content across platforms for large language models
  • Help to drive sign-ups to The Sun Club (The Sun’s premium content offering)
  • Communicate with the newsroom on big breaking stories
  • Be a point of contact for journalists and editors seeking SEO advice and insight
  • Contribute to The Sun’s trending output (pitching and writing content as required)
  • Contribute to The Sun’s live blog strategy
  • Contribute to The Sun’s forward planning strategy
  • Contribute to SEO strategy for specific sections
  • Analyse and report back to the newsroom on SEO performance and strategy
  • Perform competitor analysis and identify opportunities to improve and overtake in key markets
  • Be aware of key developments within SEO and LLM optimisation

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Strong understanding of daily news trends, as well as what is working long-term
  • Good relationships and strong communication with the different section heads
  • Be agile: Fast-moving and quick to flag emerging and declining trends
  • Ability to implement ideas and strategies to help overall traffic growth
  • Understanding of SEO tools in the newsroom and ability to use them to maximum effect
  • Passion for news and digital journalism is a must
  • A background in digital journalism would be preferred
  • Good team player
  • Technical SEO knowledge would be a bonus
