Key Responsibilities
- Generating stories: Develop and pitch original story ideas that resonate with our readers and reflect the diverse interests of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas.
- Reporting: Conduct thorough research, interviews, and investigations to produce accurate, balanced, and compelling news stories.
- Writing: Write clear, concise, and engaging articles for both print and digital platforms, adhering to our editorial standards and deadlines.
- Multimedia Content: Utilise your multimedia skills to create and edit video content, enhancing the storytelling experience for our audience.
- Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local contacts, sources, and community leaders to stay informed about important issues and events.
- Collaboration: Work closely with editors, photographers, and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage of news stories.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, continuously improving your journalism skills and knowledge.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Senior qualification, including 100wpm shorthand
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail
- A strong understanding of journalistic principles and practices
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant media law and adherence to the Editors’ Code of Conduct are vital to fulfilling the functions of the role
- Creativity and innovation, with a willingness to experiment with new approaches and techniques
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Must have a clean driving licence and a car
