Senior producer, crime – Sky News

Join Sky News as senior producer, crime, producing stories and investigations across crime, policing and justice. You’ll work with correspondents to deliver accurate, sensitive and compelling digital video-first journalism across platforms.

Job description

Sky News is looking for a senior producer, crime to play a central role in delivering distinctive, original and audience-focused journalism covering crime, policing and justice across all platforms. You will develop, produce and deliver digital video-first storytelling on major crime stories, investigations and criminal justice issues.

Working with our crime correspondent, you will combine strong editorial judgement with sensitivity towards victims, witnesses and affected communities, producing content that meets Sky News’ standards and drives audience engagement.

What you’ll do

  • Produce high-quality crime, policing and justice coverage across formats, with a digital video-first focus and clear audience purpose.
  • Develop story treatments from the initial brief through research, scripting, filming, editing and delivery, ensuring accuracy, clarity and impact.
  • Monitor developments in crime, policing, courts and justice, identifying stories with national relevance, human impact and investigative potential.
  • Work with correspondents to shape interviews, sequences, visual evidence, archive material, graphics and explainers into compelling multi-platform packages.
  • Ensure all content is legally and editorially compliant, including in relation to contempt, identification, reporting restrictions, naming suspects, victims and minors, and handling distressing material.
  • Deliver content at pace for breaking stories while maintaining high standards of verification, context, sensitivity and platform optimisation.

Essential criteria

  • Strong editorial judgement on crime, policing, courts and justice stories, including an understanding of legal and compliance risks.
  • The ability to identify and lead consequential investigations.
  • Excellent production skills across scripting, shooting, editing, picture selection, graphics and digital platform delivery.
  • The ability to work calmly and decisively under pressure, particularly on breaking crime stories and legally sensitive developments.
  • Strong verification, research and source-handling skills, with the ability to distinguish confirmed facts from claims, rumours or speculation.
  • Sensitivity and care when dealing with victims, witnesses, bereaved families, vulnerable people and affected communities.
  • A clear understanding of digital video-first storytelling and how to optimise crime content for different audiences and platforms.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across editorial, technical, legal and compliance teams.
