Senior legal editor – Thomson Reuters (London)

We are looking for a senior legal editor on part time basis.

About the role

As a senior legal editor you will be responsible for:

Legal Research, Analysis and Writing

  • Creates and classifies legal information in the form of case digests.
  • Reviews and edits legal information created by other employees, freelancers and others.
  • Identifies key legal issues in legal judgments.
  • Grades judgments for prioritisation purposes
  • Proposes additional opportunities for the enhancement of legal information contained in existing or new content or products.

Editorial Responsibility

  • Adheres to editorial writing guidelines, deadlines and quality standards.
  • Verifies own work and that of colleagues as required for accuracy, completeness, and quality and ensures that the information is properly presented and organized.
  • Maintains and develops legal knowledge and skills training as required to complete work and stay current on legal trends and developments related to the employee’s editorial responsibilities.
  • Begins development of legal information industry and marketplace knowledge

Individual and Leadership Development

  • May lead team initiatives
  • Actively contributes by raising, discussing, and resolving subject matter, production, and team issues.
  • Coaches and contributes to the development of less experienced staff.
  • Participates in the employee evaluation process (both wider feedback and self-evaluation).

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Assistant Editor if your background includes:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Impressive command of grammar, punctuation and plain English.
  • Ability to review and assimilate information from a number of different sources and to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Strong research skills and understanding of business law and the legal market.
  • Enthusiastic, highly self-motivated and well organized, strong interpersonal skills that would suit a small team, an ability to work well under pressure, including the ability to keep to non-negotiable press deadlines.
