Senior Journalist, Social

LOCATION: Glasgow– Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE:  £39,800 – £49,800 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Everything BBC News Social does is driven by audiences – we go where they are and use our journalism to engage them and try to build a valuable relationship. We are based across the UK and uniquely work with story teams across BBC News and around the world. This role offers the opportunity to build skills across a wide range of social production and work on the biggest news stories, with huge platforms to do so.

The role works on a shift pattern of four, ten hour days a week, sometimes working weekends, early shifts from 6am and late shifts until 11pm, with earlies, lates and weekends from home.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

•    Breaking news and producing engaging content across all social platforms, in video (short and long form), stills, and text
•    Deliver to tight deadlines and manage workflows of more junior colleagues, complying their work in line with BBC editorial standards
•    Commissioning colleagues from around BBC News to make social-first content
•    Curating accounts daily in line with platform-specific strategy
•    Responding to data and social listening

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

•    Writing, curation and management of large social accounts
•    A high standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial journalism experience
•    Breaking news experience on national and international stories
•    Shortform vertical video editing (Final cut pro preferable)
•    Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, appropriate to differing audiences and platforms

•    Photoshop
•    Filming
