PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 39,800 – £48,367 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
This role sits within the wider Commissioning and Investigations team at BBC Cymru Wales News, as part of a group of journalists tasked with developing original journalism with maximum audience impact. This newly formed team is expected to deliver a consistent stream of high-quality stories, with the best production values, that will help us to grow our digital audience and to maintain our linear audience. The role is a Senior Journalist Reporter position expected to generate and report on impactful stories.
The team deliver across BBC Cymru Wales’ news outlets, while also contributing to BBC Cymru Wales’ iPlayer and Sounds output. This team is also responsible for digital investigations, showcasing the best journalism BBC Cymru Wales has to offer across different formats.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- Exceptional Editorial Judgment – Proven ability to deliver complex stories and investigations, ensuring accuracy, impartiality, and audience relevance across platforms.
- Digital Expertise – Demonstrable experience in delivering impactful content tailored to digital audiences, with a strong understanding of audience needs and digital-first storytelling.
- Creative and Tenacious – A track record of generating original, high-quality journalism with the creativity and determination to see stories through from concept to completion.
- Experience of live broadcasting with good on-screen presence, self-assured microphone voice and ability to communicate effectively to target audience.
- Audience-Focused Approach – A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to understanding and engaging with diverse audiences across digital, TV, and radio platforms.
