DEPARTMENT: BBC South
LOCATION: Oxford – Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200 – £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

This role may involve shift and weekend working, and the contractual base will be BBC South News (Oxford).
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
As a key member of our Oxford team working to the local SJTM you will:
- Break stories that matter – uncover and develop original journalism that resonates with our audiences and shapes the news agenda.
- Create compelling content – produce engaging reports tailored for TV, radio, and digital, using your creativity to bring stories to life.
- Working across all platforms – film, edit, and script your own material for our flagship nightly news programme, write for online and create social media and radio content.
- Respond to breaking news with confidence and clarity, deliver live reports which inform and engage.
- Champion diversity – ensure inclusivity is at the heart of your storytelling, reflecting the communities we serve.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
We’re looking for a Journalist who:
- Exercises strong editorial judgment and has a proven track record of producing accurate, impartial, and impactful journalism.
- Has experience of delivering original stories that shape the news agenda and thrives in a collaborative environment.
- Tells stories in a creative and engaging way, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms.
- Has local knowledge and insight, with a deep understanding of the region and its people.
- Can film, script and edit their own content for transmission across BBC1 bulletins, radio, and online platforms.
