PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

 

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Senior Journalist – Reporter to provide expert and engaging reporting on the most important business stories of the day.

You will excel at reacting to breaking news, bringing insight to business, economic and technology stories from Asia Pacific and around the world.  You will have a warm, conversational broadcast style that is able to make business and economic stories feel relatable and accessible to audiences around the world.  You will be expected to pitch stories, ideas and treatments, including graphics, video and audio that enhance your daily reporting and engages audiences.

The Money, Work and Technology team reports on stories of regional and global importance, providing insightful analysis, original stories and explanatory journalism for audiences in the UK and around the world.

The Singapore bureau leads the BBC’s business coverage across all of Asia-Pacific.  We report on business, economics and technology for all of the BBC’s platforms – digital, television and radio.  Our reporting is accurate, impartial and clearly explains complex topics to a wide audience.

 

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

 

  • Deliver live reporting across TV, radio, and digital platforms with confidence, warmth, and credibility on-air
  • Build strong on-air rapport with presenters and colleagues, using a natural and conversational style
  • Write concise explainers and analysis to support live online coverage
  • Simplify complex business and economic topics, making them accessible and engaging for non-specialist audiences
  • Apply strong subject knowledge and storytelling skills to cover a wide range of topics, from global economic policy to digital content trends
  • Work independently under tight deadlines while collaborating effectively with teams both on-site and remotely
  • Adapt quickly within a fast-paced newsroom environment, taking on flexible responsibilities as needed

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

 

  • Strong knowledge of global business and economics, with particular insight into the US and Asian markets
  • Excellent editorial judgement, with the ability to quickly assess stories and translate complex topics into engaging, accessible content
  • Ability to multitask and perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience in live broadcast reporting (TV/radio), with a solid understanding of what makes compelling live content
  • Good understanding of radio and television production processes
  • Proven ability to generate original story ideas and identify emerging trends
  • Strong writing skills, with a commitment to impartiality and core journalistic values, alongside the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in diverse, fast-changing environments
