Proposed Salary Range: £41,200 – £51,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. This reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We’re looking for an ambitious journalist to report on a wide range of stories across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire: a region rich with diverse urban, rural and coastal communities. You’ll work in a truly multiplatform newsroom, reporting for BBC Look North TV, our digital services, and our local radio stations—BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

You will help stories reach as many people as possible across TV, digital, social and radio. The role includes varied working hours, with some evening and weekend shifts, and may involve TV presenting when required.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & IMPACT :
- Report original, high-impact stories for television, digital and radio, working as part of a multi-skilled editorial team.
- Generate strong story ideas backed by first-class contacts, delivering journalism that surprises, challenges and engages diverse audiences.
- Create powerful, visually compelling TV journalism, grounded in a deep understanding of what matters to local audiences.
- Write clear, creative and accurate scripts that elevate storytelling across all platforms.
- Demonstrate substantial experience in multiplatform reporting, showcasing versatility across TV, digital and radio output.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE :
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA :
- Significant journalistic experience, with strong editorial judgement and the ability to make well reasoned decisions under pressure.
- Proven experience in TV reporting and digital storytelling, crafting compelling content for both broadcast and online audiences.
- A confident, engaging and authoritative on screen presence, capable of delivering live and pre recorded journalism to a first class professional standard.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with colleagues across all BBC Local platforms.
- Thorough understanding of BBC Editorial Guidelines, with a strong grasp of impartiality, accuracy and fairness, as well as solid working knowledge of broadcast law.
DESIRABLE :
- Familiarity with BBC editorial processes, compliance requirements and the wider BBC output.
- Strong knowledge of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire’s issues, communities and audience expectations.
- A proven track record of cross platform working, ideally spanning TV, digital and radio.
- Experience developing digital-first or social storytelling strategies.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new tools, technologies or production workflows.
