PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £41,200-£45,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. We also pay additional annual Channel Islands Weighting of £5,441.

Any offer of employment will be dependent on the BBC securing permission for a candidate to live and work in Jersey.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Channel Islands is looking for a Senior Journalist Reporter to produce our TV output and also work as a cross-platform reporter. We produce TV news bulletins covering all of the Channel Islands from our Jersey studio. The job also involves reporting for Online, TV and radio.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM
This job would be ideal if you are keen on developing as an output producer and as a multi-media reporter. This is usually a 50-50 split. You’ll learn the skills needed to work with editorial and operational teams focused on that day’s output. The Islands are a British Crown Dependency, with their own governments and legal systems. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Working with the Local Story Teams in Jersey and Guernsey, you’ll produce the 1830 opt. You’ll be part of a small team of editorial and operational staff which covers the patch with a mixture of packages, lives and studio two-ways. You’ll need a good sense of what makes a story and how you want to tell it. You should be able to work with News Editors and reporters to provide the best coverage. Developing a good working relationship with the team in Guernsey is also important. When reporting, you’ll be working across Online, TV and radio. Sometimes you’ll provide for all three, on others you’ll work with colleagues to bring the story to a platform. Experience of production and reporting for Online, TV and Radio would be an advantage. Camera and editing skills would also be highly desirable.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You must have strong editorial judgement and be able to take sensitive decisions quickly and decisively. You should have and a good command of the BBC’s policies in all relevant areas. You need an excellent working knowledge of media law. You will already have a good base of experience in journalism and some exposure to TV production and reporting is essential. You will be able to make decisions with authority and under pressure and will have excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
1. Experienced Journalist
2. Production experience ideally in TV
3. Editorial decision making
4. TV editing e.g. using Final Cut Pro
5. Reporting experience including TV

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
1. Working with on-the-day programme teams
2. Self-shooting skills
3. Online writing skills
4. Radio reporting skills
