PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC South West provides multimedia content across Devon, Cornwall, Jersey and Guernsey – across digital, social media, TV and radio. And we have an amazing opportunity at the heart of our operation. You would join as a Senior Journalist working on multi-platform stories alongside our brilliant team of journalists. You’ll work with the South West’s Digital, TV and radio editors to research, gather, edit and produce outstanding impactful content.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Our team of Senior Journalists is multi-skilled. They work across all areas of output from reporting and presenting to planning our big events and subbing our online content. It’s a widely varied role that offers the opportunity to generate content for numerous platforms and programmes – everything from daily news to outside broadcasts and in-depth editorial features.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • This is a fully multi-platform role. As a Senior Journalist, you’ll play a key role in our South West newsroom—researching, gathering, and editing content for online, social media, TV, and radio. You’ll ensure stories are clear, engaging, legally sound, and optimised for success across platforms. You’ll also contribute to key outputs, including the lunchtime TV bulletin and the main 18:30 programme.
  • You’ll have strong journalism experience—ideally in both digital and TV—and be a reliable, calm presence under pressure. You’ll know the South West inside out and understand what matters to our audience. We’re looking for someone creative, passionate about great journalism, and skilled at making content reach the widest possible audience.
  • You’ll embrace the challenge of improving digital skills at the BBC and you’ll be a big believer in teamwork; because you’ll often be the person colleagues turn to for support in creating outstanding multi-platform content.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Significant experience of digital and television content gathering.
  • Proven ability to find, research and produce creative stories.
  • Sound editorial judgement, taking responsibility for output on matters of editorial sensitivity under pressure along with a commitment to delivering accurate and impartial journalism.
  • Know exactly how to best leverage our content for delivery across multiple platforms – and ensure that our stories get the best possible exposure.
  • A willingness to experiment and try different approaches and formats in storytelling to reach new and different audiences.
  • The ability to work well with other journalists and teams across our newsrooms in the South West.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
