Purpose of The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative senior journalist to join our Newsletters team. You will primarily focus on producing and developing our News Daily newsletter for hundreds of thousands of engaged readers in the UK. It’s a role for someone with considerable experience in digital news – equally comfortable with writing and editing copy as with testing new concepts and handling analytics. As the current BBC News strategy highlights, newsletters are key to driving habit, loyalty and engagement among audiences.

As a senior journalist on the Newsletters team, you will play a key role in innovative digital storytelling, providing audiences with more original reporting and a rich perspective on current events.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

 

  • Write and edit newsletters at speed, ensuring all editions are published on deadline and to the highest standards
  • Work with content and planning teams to identify the best material to feature in News Daily and support the rollout of different digital initiatives
  • Collaborate with teams across the BBC to develop the wider newsletter portfolio in line with audience needs
  • Use data to constantly iterate and improve our newsletters
  • Act as an ambassador for the newsletter around the newsroom and the wider BBC

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

 

  • Excellent editorial judgement and significant experience writing and editing breaking news in text on digital platforms
  • A track record of covering both UK and international news agendas and delivering insightful, high-quality journalism to digital audiences
  • Experience of taking editorial decisions quickly and independently while under pressure to meet deadlines and a changing news agenda
  • Proven experience of using digital analytics to develop ideas
  • A rich understanding of how newsletters can be used to drive audience growth and where BBC News sits within the UK newsletter picture

 

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

 

  • Experience delivering reports on performance and sharing good practice
  • Confidence using newsletter production tools and workflows
  • Strong knowledge of the UK political and cultural landscape
  • Keen interest in mentoring fellow journalists and supporting the development of the wider team
  • Experience curating editorial content to engage audiences
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with other teams and departments
