You will combine a love of news, sharp writing, editing and rewriting skills with a thoughtful approach to how we tell a story to audiences both in India and across the world.
WHY JOIN THE TEAM
You’ll be working daily on one of the world’s most vibrant and diverse news agendas. You’ll bring the biggest general and business stories from India to a global audience.
This role offers the chance to write breaking news, live posts and features. As a senior journalist you’ll also lead editorial shifts, edit live pages, and collaborate with colleagues across the BBC.
The role will also play a significant role in growing the BBC’s reach in India via the website and social media channels.
The News team needs people who are full of ideas, eager to brainstorm and contribute to our editorial meetings. You will have useful and creative approaches to the big stories in India, including the best formats and visual treatments. It’s an opportunity to innovate, broaden reach, and make a real impact on how millions engage with our journalism.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

• You will take overall responsibility for business news coverage, especially around government policies and their impact on people
• You will also be asked to lead news shifts on some days. This will involve setting up the news agenda of the day and assigning stories (both text and video) to other members of the team. You will take overall responsibility of the output – this will involve editing, subbing and rewriting news stories and features to be published on the BBC News website
• You will be asked to write quick breaking news stories and chase leads and unexplored angles for high-impact features and videos
• You will also be asked to contribute to our output on social media – from scripting to overseeing video production to writing and editing creative posts to boost our reach. You should have a good understanding of analysing audience data – both for the website and social media platforms. Your inputs should help the team come up with strategies to maximise reach
• You will be expected to liaise closely with other colleagues and departments in the BBC to ensure that our output is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practices are upheld
• You will be expected to deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards
This role may require you to travel at short notice for work.

• Extensive experience of copy editing and rewriting news and features in text
• The ability to make stories from and about India accessible to a reader or viewer sitting anywhere in the world by adding the right context and perspective
