PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £39,800 – £50,300 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Senior Journalist role on Curation is to help curate the front pages of the UK and international editions of the BBC News website and app – which are central to our efforts to grow our audience. You will play a key role in presenting and expertly promoting the most important stories and video of the day. You will have the opportunity to work on news and write, edit, sub and commission stories across all our digital platforms.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
•    Work with the assistant editor to ensure we are presenting the most important stories and video of the day with the most compelling headlines and images
•    Swiftly implement curation plans around breaking news
•    Help editors and stakeholders to identify daily promotion priorities and drive a broad and compelling mix of content across the day
•    Ensure curation decisions are informed by audience data and research
•    Use curation insights to inform newsroom discussions about commissioning and promotion
•    Apply curation best practice and contribute to its evolution

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
•    Excellent editorial judgement with significant experience working with or in a curation team to execute digital promotion plans in a fast-paced news environment
•    Proven experience in covering the UK and international news agenda and delivering insightful, high-quality journalism to digital audiences
•    The ability to sift news material at speed and craft sharp headlines and identify the best pictures, while maintaining attention to accuracy, balance, context and tone
•    Experience of making decisions under pressure while swiftly rolling out a digital coverage plan
•    A track-record of using data to reach new audiences and drive habit
