PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role is central to delivering impactful digital journalism for Kyrgyz-speaking audiences. You’ll originate and produce compelling stories across BBC platforms, including scripting, editing, filming, and presenting. With a strong focus on original newsgathering and creative storytelling, you’ll help shape the BBC Kyrgyz Service’s digital output, ensuring it remains engaging, relevant, and aligned with BBC editorial standards.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

•    Research, write, and edit engaging news reports and analytical pieces that meet BBC editorial standards and resonate with Kyrgyz-speaking audiences.
•    Respond swiftly to breaking news, delivering accurate, on-the-ground reporting and advising editors on coverage decisions.
•    Use a range of formats and platforms—especially social media—to tell stories in innovative and audience-focused ways.
•    Collaborate with colleagues to generate coverage ideas, contribute to the news diary, and provide insights on regional developments.
•    Maintain clear communication with editors, meet tight deadlines, and uphold BBC health and safety policies while delivering high-quality journalism.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

•    Fluent in written and spoken Kyrgyz, with strong live reporting skills, confident on-screen presence, and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to target audiences.
•    Demonstrates sound editorial judgment, impartiality, and the ability to make quick, balanced decisions under pressure.
•    Skilled in digital storytelling and newsgathering, with a strong grasp of how to maximise stories across digital and social platforms.
•    A collaborative team player who contributes to planning and works effectively with reporters, producers, and editors.
•    Adaptable and resilient, with a commitment to diversity, audience representation, and BBC health and safety standards.
