Job Introduction
News Content is at the heart of BBC News providing news reports, pictures and audio material to all BBC News services both in the UK and internationally. It provides content of the highest possible editorial and technical standard which in turn provides the best value for money for BBC audiences. It has to ensure that in the face of increasing competition, the BBC is the world leader in broadcast newsgathering at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation.
Based in Beirut, the Senior Producer will be help identify the most important stories in the Middle East, then work with correspondents, producers and crews to present them to our audiences. They will be expected to travel frequently, often at short notice, to cover breaking news in the region, and occasionally beyond. They will become a source of editorial expertise, able to advise colleagues in the Middle East and in London. They will have an excellent awareness and understanding of the BBC’s audience strategy and be expected to deliver content for all our audiences, with special regard to those who are currently underserved.
They will need to be comfortable working in hostile environments, helping to manage the safety of the team, liaising with the High Risk Team in London and managing a risk assessment process.
They will need to be a skilled communicator able to work well with colleagues and to lead a small team.
They will need to have a highly developed understanding of due impartiality, and be able to communicate that to more junior members of staff.
They will need to be able to oversee budgeting for reporting trips and to manage spending.
They will need to demonstrate the resilience and maturity to deal with high pressure situations.
They need to be prepared to travel away from their base on occasion and at short notice in response to breaking new
Main Responsibilities
Responsible for originating and producing stories which may include scripting, editing,
- outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of BBC output.
- Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and
- adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
- May be required to undertake on-air reporting, may be required to film and edit material for
- broadcast where appropriate.
- May include the production and presentation of live or recorded programmes.
- May be required to present live or recorded content on radio, TV or online.
- As required, to allocate work to a team and check progress; ensure the professional
- contribution of staff and the quality of output.
- Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the
- audiences we serve.
- Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available
- resources.
- To act as a facilitator of change, clearly communicating and distributing best practices between
- teams.

Are you the Right Candidate?
- High level of experience of producing outstanding news stories in English from the field for international news organisations.
- Experience of telling stories across different media – using video, text and audio.
- Experience of working in very high-pressured news environments, dealing with the most sensitive and complex political stories requiring sound editorial judgements
- Experience of managing small teams of journalists, particularly with different international backgrounds
- Experience of working in hostile environments and managing risk assessment process
- Experience of managing breaking news deployments under pressure.
