PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £43,000 – £53,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Naidheachdan provides engaging local, national and international news for a Gaelic audience on a variety of linear and digital platforms. As a Senior Journalist, we’re looking for someone who can play a key role presenting our flagship Gaelic radio news programme Aithris na Maidne as well as other news programmes, helping to drive the editorial agenda and connect with new and existing audiences whether they are in the Highlands and Islands, in the Central Belt or further afield.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

You will be skilled at engaging, informing and entertaining a wide audience, holding decision makers to account and making complex issues accessible.
Have an accomplished presentation style, built up through training and experience, which engages the listener.
Research, script and present items and programmes meeting high journalistic standards and fully observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
Make the best use of new technologies – in particular developments in social media and radio visualisation – in delivering our journalism to audiences and to set an example in learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods.
Generate ideas and stories; contribute to the creative treatment and be involved in the production of an item or programme; provide clear treatments and proposals, ensuring consistency of content, quality and style.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Experience of presenting live news-based content as a presenter, correspondent/reporter or contributor.
Excellent spoken and written Scottish Gaelic language skills.
Demonstrates balanced and unbiased judgement based on a thorough understanding of BBC Editorial guidelines, target audience, programme and department objectives.
Ability to convey story and programme ideas and to contribute fully to the planning process.
Has a well-developed knowledge of the Scottish news landscape, understanding immediately the impact of one story on the wider picture.
