We're looking for a highly creative, experienced and audience-focused Senior Content Producer to join the John Acres Breakfast Show team on a six-month, part-time job share.

CONTRACT TYPE: Attachment / Fixed-term, Part-time (14 hours) Contract until 15/01/2027. As this role is a job share you will be required to work Thursday and Friday 5am – 1pm.
DEPARTMENT: BBC Radio Devon
LOCATION: Plymouth
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
This role can be offered either as a part-time fixed-term contract or as a non-continuous attachment opportunity for an existing BBC employee.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
At BBC Radio Devon, our breakfast programme is the soundtrack to mornings across the county. We’re looking for a highly creative, experienced and audience-focused Senior Content Producer to join the John Acres Breakfast Show team on a six-month, part-time job share. You’ll bring strong journalistic instincts, production excellence and fresh ideas to help grow an already successful programme, creating content that informs, entertains and reflects life across Devon.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
- Working with the other part of this job share you will lead the planning and production of the John Acres Breakfast Show helping to set the editorial agenda and deliver compelling, audience-focused content.
- Generate original storytelling ideas, campaigns and creative treatments that resonate with Devon audiences and help grow engagement with the programme.
- Work closely with presenters, journalists and production colleagues across BBC South West and the wider BBC to deliver outstanding stories and respond effectively to breaking news.
- Ensure all output meets the highest editorial, production and compliance standards, making sound editorial decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- Use audience insight, feedback and data to identify opportunities to strengthen content and maintain the breakfast show’s strong reputation and reach.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Considerable experience producing live radio or audio content in a newsroom or broadcast environment.
- Excellent journalistic judgement, with the ability to identify, develop and deliver stories that matter to local audiences.
- A proven track record of generating creative content and turning complex issues into engaging, accessible storytelling on radio and social media.
- Experience of working closely with presenters and providing clear editorial direction and constructive feedback.
- A thorough understanding of BBC Editorial Guidelines, media law and compliance requirements.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Experience producing a breakfast programme or other high-profile live output.
- Evidence of creating successful content across digital, social and on-demand platforms.
- Knowledge of Devon, its communities and the issues affecting audiences across the county.
- Strong understanding of audience insight and how to use it to inform editorial decisions.
- Experience supporting, coaching or developing colleagues within a production team.
