We are News Broadcasting: Times Radio is the broadcast arm of The Times and The Sunday Times, showcasing the work of incredible journalists who break agenda setting stories and provide second-to-none analysis of current affairs. This journalistic engine house is augmented with world-class broadcasting presenters including Andrew Neil, John Pienaar, Jane Garvey and Fi Glover.


The Team:
 News UK Broadcasting’s news team delivers world class news and sport bulletins across our national radio stations as well as live two-ways on breaking stories and a variety of news and sport podcasts. Our broadcast journalists tailor the news appropriately to very different audiences, coming to our brands for very different experiences.  Life sounds good with Virgin Radio, home to Chris Evans at Breakfast, while talkSPORT, the world’s biggest sports radio station, delivers the very best live sport and analysis. TALK is the “home of common sense”, delivering a schedule of news and current affairs designed to challenge and inform. The team is agile in reacting to major news events and dynamic in how it covers them.


Your Role: 
You will be ostensibly Times Radio’s senior newsreader. Reporting to the Head of News, your experience and authority will enhance the country’s most exciting airwaves and help develop the news team. You’ll step up to show leadership at key times. You must immerse fully in Times Radio’s passion for politics and current affairs.


Day to day you will: 

  • Produce and present the station’s all-important news bulletins
  • Set the news agenda by making key editorial decisions on stories and how to tell them
  • Understand the unique nature of The Times and The Sunday Times’ journalism
  • Be a major voice day-to-day in coordinating story and clip gathering across all our networks
  • Work in harmony with the Executive Producers and programming teams of Times Radio
  • Cover for the Head of News and Deputy Head of News at the station’s meetings
  • Support the Head of News and Deputy Head of News in wider management of the news team
  • Read news bulletins on talkSPORT, Virgin Radio and TALK when required
  • Command the respect of a well-informed and highly news-engaged audience


What we’re looking for from you:

  • An outstanding voice with exemplary delivery in live bulletins
  • Exceptional news judgement, with the ability to filter out spin
  • Razor sharp clarity of writing with an ability to distill complex issues into a few sentences
  • First-class political knowledge
  • Significant demonstrable experience of a fast-paced regional or national broadcast newsroom
  • Calmness and speed under considerable pressure
  • The ability to show skill, experience or desire in related areas: reporting on location, podcasting, visual storytelling
  • A proven ability to guide and nurture other members of staff
  • An understanding of News UK’s diverse media portfolio
