Reporter – DC Thomson (Scotland)
We are looking for a diligent digital reporter to join The Press and Journal’s high-performing Live team. Reporting to the Live News Editor, you will be on the frontline of what’s happening in our communities; breaking news, chasing stories and producing high-quality content.
This full-time, hybrid role is focused on Moray and based in our Elgin office at least two days a week.
However, you must be flexible and able to travel across The Press and Journal’s news patch as needed, including to the Inverness office.
Ideally, you’ll be an experienced journalist, but we’re open to applications from candidates looking for their first job in journalism.
Accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Working at pace to produce clean, accurate, engaging content focused on Moray for The Press and Journal’s website and print edition
- Being visible in our communities
- Bringing in stories that matter to our readers and distributing them to relevant audiences
- Making contacts and developing relationships with local organisations and individuals
- Using data to inform and inspire story choice
- Presenting stories in an engaging way
Requirements
The ideal candidate:
- Is an experienced multimedia reporter, with a proven track record
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and team goals
- Has a positive, self-starter attitude and takes initiative
- Is knowledgeable about SEO and digital best practice
- Has an eye for trends and spotting stories on social media
- Is data-driven and focused on real-time analytics
- Has detailed knowledge of the Editors’ Code of Practice, GDPR and media law
- Holds a full GB driving licence
- Has shorthand (preferred, but not essential)
