Regional Head of Print Production
The Newsquest Southern Region is looking for an experienced sub-editor and page designer working in print production who can lead a team and be at the forefront of producing a varied stable of high-impact tabloid dailies and prestige weekly titles.
As Regional Print Production Editor you will lead the team subbing and shaping front pages on titles from the UK’s biggest-selling local weekly, the Isle of Wight County Press, to the Echo series in Southampton, Bournemouth, and Weymouth – and all titles in between in Cornwall, Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire.
Taking an active role in day-to-day operations, design skills will be at the forefront of your work in drawing up front pages that sing on newsstands.
You will be highly organised ensuring the smooth running of the production hub team, completing pages and publications to deadline with exceptional attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing team members and the rota to ensure every deadline is met and every paper hits the highest standard possible.
- Ensuring team members are kept up to date with training and motivating them in their work.

- Working closely with publication Editors to evolve the design of our newspapers and any one-off supplements or publications.
- Driving the development of our print titles, with a sharp eye on layout, design and front-page impact.
- Producing newspapers and any other publications to house style and policy.
- Keep your skills sharp with regular company training and development opportunities.
- Embracing new tools and tech to streamline workflow and maximise efficiency.
Key tasks:
- Deliver daily and weekly print deadlines across the region.
- Stick rigorously to house subbing style and ensure clean, accurate, and engaging copy every time.
- Weekend, evening or public holiday work as part of the rota or when required.
- Ensure design and style guidelines are met consistently across all titles.
- Attend performance reviews and legal training as needed.
- Follow the company’s code of conduct and editorial standards at all times.
- Stay alert to headline sensitivity and legal implications in content.
- Liaise with departments such as planning, advertising, sales, and marketing when needed.
- Meet regularly with editors to review print quality.
- Uphold the IPSO Code of Practice and the company’s code of conduct in relation to editorial.
