PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

 

The Senior Producer, based in Paris, will identify key stories in France and collaborate with correspondents and crews to deliver compelling content. Frequent travel, often at short notice, is required for breaking news coverage in France and occasionally abroad. Acting as an editorial expert, they will advise colleagues across Europe and London. With strong awareness of BBC’s audience strategy, they will create content for all audiences, prioritizing those currently underserved.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

 

  • Produce high-quality, engaging content across TV, radio, online text, and video, with strong technical and editorial skills.
  • Work with correspondents and camera crews to produce video news packages for TV and online; record, edit, and create radio packages; photography skills are desirable.
  • Follow diverse political, economic, social, and cultural stories in France, demonstrating strong knowledge of current events and institutions.
  • Speak and write fluent French and English, with rapid translation ability and maintain a strong network of contacts in government, media, and key organizations.
  • Monitor news sources, share developments with teams in Paris, Brussels, and London, and prioritize stories for BBC output.
  • Field-produce during breaking news, manage risk assessments, budgets, and projects, while adhering to BBC health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrate resilience under pressure, deliver to tight deadlines, and embrace creative storytelling to reach underserved audiences across platforms.

 

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

 

  • Proven experience producing outstanding field news stories in English for international audiences.
  • Deep understanding of French news agenda, social issues, and political developments, with ability to make them compelling globally.
  • Skilled in multi-platform storytelling across video, text, and audio formats.
  • Experience in detailed, precise research and investigative journalism.
  • Strong editorial judgment under pressure, handling sensitive and complex political stories in fast-paced environments.
  • Expertise in managing breaking news deployments and coordinating effectively during high-pressure situations.
