Political Reporter – The Northern Echo (Darlington)

The Northern Echo, Newsquest’s flagship daily title, is looking for a Political Reporter to join the Great Daily of the North.

For more than 150 years The Northern Echo has been setting the news agenda in the North East and North Yorkshire – holding those in power to account and an exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious journalist to join our team.

This is an exciting and crucial time for politics in our region – with the Prime Minister on our doorstep, the spotlight on the red wall, mayoral elections looming, and a devolution deal set to take centre stage.

So, we are now looking for a Political Reporter to produce insightful coverage of all these political developments in the region and someone who can break original, agenda-setting stories.

You will have a passion for politics and be able to use it to inform and enlighten our audiences across a number of platforms.

We are looking for an experienced reporter with a track record in political writing who can translate complex subjects into engaging content for online and print audiences.

You will have an understanding of newsletters and how to use social media and multimedia, including video and audio to reach audiences. A full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

The Northern Echo and its associated titles are thriving with some of the fastest-growing digital audiences and strongest circulation figures in the industry – but at our heart is amazing journalism you can trust.

This is your chance to play a part in writing the next chapter of our history. We are offering a competitive salary and offer flexible working from home and from our office in Darlington.

If this sounds like the job for you, email your CV and a brief cover letter by September 29. Applications will be considered as they are submitted.
