BBC Studios Drama Productions sits at the heart of the UK as our slate of award-winning soaps and dramas continue to bring audiences together week after week.
We have a slate of award-winning productions based in the West Midlands including the new kid in town, Silent Witness, and our trio of fabulous cosy crime shows, Father Brown, Sister Boniface Mysteries, and Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators. Through these shows we plan to continue our commitment to investing in the region and championing local talent across all departments.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for an experienced, fast and creative online drama Editor, with excellent storytelling skills, and a passion for scripted content. You will work closely with production teams across the West Midlands on shows such as Sister Boniface Mysteries, Father Brown and Silent Witness; helping them to realise their creative ambition through the edit.

 

You will also be instrumental in the set up and establishment of our new post production facility house; deputising for the Head of Post Production where required.

 

You will have experience in a wide range of software packages to offline, online and grade. You will be a highly motivated self-starter who takes pride in completing projects to the highest standard possible, and be flexible with regards to moving deadlines and requirements.

 

You will have strong communication skills; having worked with a variety of production teams, you will be able to work to a defined brief. You will work collaboratively with the Series Producer, Exec and Line Producer to ensure your work reflects their vision, and aligns with the overall tone and ambition and budget of the series.  You will confidently advise or gently challenge where you have expert knowledge which may help inform important decisions or improve processes.

 

Combined with first class planning and organisational abilities, you will have considerable drama edit experience, as well as technical and editorial expertise. You will have experience of troubleshooting, installing kit and software, and problem solving both technical and editorial issues.

 

Knowledge of Avid is essential, along with an understanding of transmission and technical standards for delivery.

Key Responsibilities

•    Edit, Online, Review & QAR programmes
•    Making technical repairs, resolving production issues and assessing VFX requirements
•    Performing paint outs and basic VFX work
•    Simple grading and graphics work
•    Producing broadcast quality sound mix for short promo packages
•    Support installation and troubleshooting at the Birmingham post production hub
•    Engineering and technical support
•    Deputising for Head of Post Production as required and supporting junior staff
•    Meeting broadcast technical standards for deliveries for UK and International


What does it take?

•    Experienced drama editor
•    Full knowledge of Avid editing software
•    Working knowledge of Adobe products
•    Good knowledge of audio
•    Full understanding of Broadcast Technical standards for UK and International delivery
•    Full understanding of HD, UHD & 4K workflows
•    Ability to use various software packages
•    Experience of working independently and making editorial judgement decisions
•    Experience of working to detailed and specific briefs
•    Experience of working in a role where you demonstrated strong communication and collaboration skills to realise the creative ambition of the production team; embracing their ideas and offering your own in order to improve the final output or processes
•    Experience of conveying creative ideas and technical information clearly whilst working at pace
•    Expert knowledge of the television production process and experience of working in environments where requirements and deadlines regularly shift
•    Experience of working across multiple edits simultaneously
•    Knowledge of our West Midlands content as listed above

Package Description

Salary:                          £49,000 – £59,000 pa
Contract:                      10 month fixed term contract
Preferred start date:     6th January
Location:                       Birmingham 5 days per week on site at our Post Production facility with the possibility of occasional WFH
